Animals Which sleep on their back.....

"The only animals that can naturally sleep on their backs are humans. No other animal actually does--apes usually sleep sitting up and leaning on something."

This statement has been bothering me for a long time because humans are NOT the only animals to sleep on their backs. My dog sleeps on its back all the time and many other dogs. So again, humans are NOT the only animals to sleep on their backs.

We've had two cats and a dog and they've all been known to sleep on their backs. They need to be very relaxed and comfortable to do it, obviously, but you can tell from their breathing and their delayed response to touching their bellies that they're out, not just "resting their eyes".

Radio 4 suggests that spiders are the only other creatures that sleep on their backs.

Note it says NATURALLY just because other animals do like dogs and cats doesn't mean it's natural for them to

Googled "animals lying on their back" to look at pictures, and this is the first link came up.
